Hope In the Midst of Trouble

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

For the past few weeks , months really, the whole world has been swallowed into this corona-virus pandemic. The supermarkets are crowded, full of anxious people emptying every shelf, especially the toilet paper. The schools are closed, some professionals are pushed to work from home, while others are left without work. Churches have even shutdown and decided to broadcast their sermons on live stream. People's hearts have been quivering with fear, concerned for their loved ones and themselves. Officially the city of Philadelphia has announced they are shutting down today at 5pm. Apparently the shut down will last 2 weeks, 8 weeks the latest. This of course, only adds to the worry, worry, worry. It is expected to feel anxious and concerned. "How long this pandemic will last? Are all of my family and friends safe? What's to become of our country?" The list can go on. While all of this commotion is happening right in our own backyards, I've some how managed to obtain this undeniable peace in my spirit. Mainly because I know God is my Father and I'm his precious daughter! He is still in control!

As children of God we need to remember, one thing, our God has got us! He is our father, and we belong to Him. The Bible says, Philippians 4:6-7,19,"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request me made known to God. And the Peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. vs.19: But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches and glory by Christ Jesus." Psalm 9:7 says, A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." Matthew 6:25-33 :

"25 Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing?

26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?

27 And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the span of his life?

28 And why should you be anxious about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field and learn thoroughly how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.

29 Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his magnificence (excellence, dignity, and grace) was not arrayed like one of these.

30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?

32 For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.

33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides."

The bottom line my brothers & sisters, our God has got us! These scriptures are His promises to us, especially during these hard & troublesome times! We don't need to worry about anything, the corona virus, how we'll pay for upcoming bills, if we've interacted with someone exposed to COVID-19 or not! We are covered by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior! He will sustain us, He will give us the wisdom on how to ration our food, money, etc. He will protect you and your loved ones! God is able! All He asks of us is to believe that He will do exactly what He said He will do.

Don't get me wrong, there are times I've felt like Peter when he walked on the water toward Jesus. I have family members that were particularly taking great precautions. As they would share their fears, I could feel myself sink into a mini storm of panic; just as Peter did when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the storm around him. The full story is in Matthew 14:22-33. In verse 29-30, is says Peter boldly walked onto the water, but when he saw the winds, he got afraid and started to sink. The winds of this virus are causing a spiritual uproar and are triggering so much fear throughout the world. If we focus so much on what we see, we are guaranteed to sink into the stormy waters of fear. Although we may sink, we can't let our fears keep us from calling out to Jesus! Peter fell into the water, yet in verse 30- 31, you'll see he cried out to Jesus, pleading for Jesus to save him and He did! You might not have the funds to get food and water for the next few of days, you might even be infected with COVID-19. I speak this to you in faith, God has got you! YES! EVEN YOU! You can still cry out to Jesus, because you are protected and He will supply ALL of your needs according to His riches and glory! He's got you!

Just like Deitrick Haddon's song, 'He's Able' says,

"God is able to do just what he said he would do. He's gonna fulfill every promise to you. Don't give up on god, cause he won't give up on you.

He's able!"

God is able!

Prayer Time:

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are a great and mighty God! Thank You for Your faithfulness! Thank You for protection during this turbulent pandemic of COVID-19! As cities, counties, businesses, everything surrounding us shuts down, help us not to look away from YOU! As the storm rages on, help us not to give up on YOU! God I ask that You will help us to continuously trust You, even when it's hard to understand why things happening in this way. Help us to trust you in the midst of the problems. Thank You Lord for reminding us in Your word that you will provide for us according to Your riches & glory! Help us to be confident that You will sustain us. God I pray for those heavily effected by COVID-19, whether they are infected or lost a loved one. Lord, I ask that you will heal their bodies and comfort those who are emotionally suffering from a lost. God help us to see that this pandemic is not greater than You! You are greater than this mountain, known as corona-virus, in front of us! Lord, You are greater than the power of the enemy! You are so much greater! Help us to believe Your promises. Help us to simply believe in You. May we rely completely on YOU! Because no fear, no grave, no virus, nothing, absolutely NOTHING is greater than You, the GREAT I AM!! Thank You Jesus for Your love! I will praise you now and forever! Amen.

Read Psalm 91 and Matthew 14:22-32. Write a letter of gratitude to God in response to what you've read. In spite of all this trouble, God has done so much for us in our lives! He is our hope in the midst of our troubles! Even now, we still have so much to be hopeful for! He is our good, good father, and He cares for his children!

Love you my dear sisters! Remember, you are always covered by God's grace!
